To kick off New York Fashion Week, Wellington Hair Spa in Manhattan invited beauty editors to stop by for some pampering, champagne and mini cupcakes. Salon owner Patrick Wellington was on hand for blow outs and styling, and manicurists from M2M DamoreJon were also available. The salon regularly offers a variety of services, including coloring, intensive conditioning and cuts for all hair types and textures.
M2M offers a rainbow of nail polishes ranging from neon yellow to a sparkly glitter. I chose a dark crimson that almost looks black, but has a tiny hint of red. While getting my nails done, I learned that M2M DamoreJon’s founder, Myrdith Leon-McCormack, is Haitian and her company has been donating a percentage of each bottle of polish they sell to the Carma Foundation, a nonprofit dedicating to assisting people in Haiti.

I did not have a very good experience here at all. Maybe it was unique, but the room had a very odd smell, it was incredibly hot and at one point I felt like I was going to pass out from the heat of the room matched with that of the hair appliances, Patrick isnt very skilled at dealing with different hair types (used way too much product for my hair texture) or hair tools (cant do a blowout or ironing) and let’s be real, the services are incredibly overpriced! I could get my hair done at Frederic Fekkai for that cost, and surprisingly, even their students can do a blowout on my hair (which is wavy). Furthermore, although he was nice, the service wasnt top notch, there was a very long wait time between washing, conditioning, drying, etc, and he stopped for long periods of times to take phone calls and whatnot.
At $160+ JUST for a relaxer, the service and comfort of clients should be of the utmost importance. I have been to several salons in NYC and across the country and I know the range of costs realistically. I could get the same results for less than half the price at a Dominican Salon. Or I could get my hair a chemical service and a cut for that price at one of the top salons in NY. Take your pick. Likewise, the skill, ambiance and environment doesnt at all match the close to $200 bill. I think very honest reviews are helpful, because if I had known, I wouldnt have wasted anyones time with an appointment and id have my investment back. Close, but no cigar.
I ‘v had my hair done by Wellington Hair Spa, and speaking as someone who lets very few people touch my hair. I would say someone didn’t do there home work before hand. You can always go by any Salon and check it out and talk to others and get there opinion before having a service. If nothing else you can certainly check out the facility. And that reminds me of an old saying my mom use to say. “If you can’t say anything nice, say nothing.” PS I hope you found equally lovely things to say about the other places u dislike. cause we have no problems knocking our own!!! PS If your gonna b brave enough to talk the talk atleast walk the walk!
