Design Focus: Trilogy Salon, Indianapolis, Indiana

Both mother and daughter wanted the overall design aesthetic of the salon to be French vintage chic with new and modern pieces, but encompassing an old world feeling. The interior design firm Phanomen / design chose pieces for the space that don’t particularly match, but once put together offer a strong cohesive look that emulates the duo’s vision. The waiting room includes vintage-inspired custom designed furniture covered in rich, luxurious fabrics such as velvet and white leather.

There are three styling stations in the workroom, custom-designed by Phanomen, that are double-sided, providing six work areas for the stylists. The salon chairs are from Takara Belmont.

Phillips wanted to set up the color bar to be reminiscent of an actual bar where one would have a drink. Clients come together while stylists mix their color on one side of the bar, the color is then applied at the bar as well. Once color is applied, clients then have the option of relaxing at the bar or proceeding to the processing room complete with comfy chairs and a decadent chandelier. Chairs are from Takara Belmont.

Prior to being a salon, the space was a restaurant; Phanomen completely reworked the rooms, but also used existing elements to enhance the design. For example the ceilings in the room are 15 feet high; Phanomen highlighted the height by adding the black paneled ceiling created by Ceilume to add dimension to the room. The blue wall with white zigzag stripes was custom-painted by Lisa Lozinak to be the workroom’s focal point, rather than remaining to be the room’s only large wall that reached the 15-foot ceiling.

Wanting total elegance and beauty, light color backwash stations were chosen from Takara Belmont instead of traditional black. Additional choices for a sophisticated style include silk fabric sandwiched between glass panels for the cabinets above the stations and framing the cosmetology licenses in gold, gilded frames. “Making different choices in design and adding these special touches shows a bit more exclusivity than a regular salon,” said Misko.
