The look for Vivienne Tam‘s Spring 2013 collection was modern, geometric and simply stunning. Dresses, loose pants and sheaths of organza in white, black, red and green dominated the runway with giant geometric shapes and stripes as the focal points.
Lead hairstylist for Tam’s collection was Leon Gorman of Cutler Salon who created simple, yet discreetly intricate low knots to complement the geometry. “The theme of the collection is Chinese cosmology which includes five elements, metal, wood, water, earth and fire,” Gorman said. “These elements were represented through graphics in the collection, so I wanted to create something sleek to not take away from the shapes.”
And while the overall look of what Gorman created was indeed simple, close up the workmanship showed his own use of geometry with a small bun twisted into itself and a flip of hair on the ends splayed out. For a touch of edge and distinction, Gorman then dusted the center parts with color sprays, different for each model in either red, white, green or black. Prior to twisting, Gorman parted the hair down the center and used Redken Full-Frame 07 Protective Volumizing Mousse for control and texture.
Incoco City Chic was used for the nails, while the makeup was kept clean and definitive, lead by MAC Cosmetics makeup artist Maud Laceppe.
