Artist and fashion designer Susan Cianciolo showed her spring ’10 collection in a lofty space Downtown. A sitar player provided the sound track for the presentation, which featured eco-friendly designs made from recycled, repurposed and organic materials and fabrics. To complement the earthy feeling, Joico celebrity stylist George Papanikolas created wavy, bohemian hairstyles for the models that were embellished with sprays of real flowers. “The line has a handmade, organic feeling, so we gave the hair an earthy texture,” he told me.
Papanikolas used a three-barrel curling iron to create beachy waves, using Joico Design Collection Texture Spray to give hair a piecy, rougher texture. He then brushed out the waves, back-combing the hair for more volume, and pinned the hair up in loose updos or partial updos, leaving some strands of hair out. Papanikolas finished the look by tucking sprays of real roses and daisies into the hair. Design Collection Flexible Shaping Spray provided extra volume and held the look in place.
Keeping with the au naturale theme, models wore eco-friendly Priti Polish in either Keepsake Rose or Pink Jewel Carnation.
