Given the buzz and energy backstage at Mara Hoffman’s show at Lincoln Center today, you’d hardly know there was a major snowstorm the night before in New York City. Nick Irwin, lead stylist for Catwalk by TIGI, was busy creating a sophisticated gypsy-inspired hairstyle to complement the designer’s collection. To get the look, he prepped the hair with Catwalk by TIGI Curlesque Strong Mousse, twisted and pinned sections of hair and diffuser-dried it. He then used Session Series Styling Cream on the top of the hair to smooth it down. Next, he unpinned the hair and loosely shook it out, parted it in the center and tucked it behind the shoulders. To finish, he applied Sleek Mystique Look Lock Hairspray and Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray, then accessorized the look by attaching a chain from ear to ear across the back of the hair. This small detail added a little sex appeal to the style, in addition to differentiating between the smooth top and textured lengths of the hair.
Maybelline was also on hand doing makeup and nails. Lead stylist for makeup Charlotte Willer created a seductive eye using just eyeliner and added a nude lip created by topping lips prepped with concealer with Totally Toffee lipstick. Lead nail tech Honey provided the finishing touch, topping black nails with metallic silver crescent moon tips coated in silver shimmer polish, a look which she called “unconnected lunula.”
