Jason Wu’s fall 2011 collection was inspired by Versailles and a Baroque style. To complement the palette of muted blacks, whites and nudes with antique gold accents, lead stylist Odile Gilbert for Aveda wanted to create a hairstyle that was “simple and elegant, but with a touch of luxury,” she says. The result was a slicked back ponytail with a twist–literally!–and a painted on gold feather. Gilbert used Aveda Brilliant Retexturizing Gel and Spray-on Shine to achieve hold and a polished finish.
The makeup by Diane Kendal for M.A.C reflected the opulence of the collection with a midnight blue eye highlighted with a streak of gold in the center of the lid. The rest of the face was kept simple and clean, and the eyebrows were bleached to make the eyes pop even more and keep the look modern.
The nails also got a gilded touch. Roxanne Valinoti from CND created a design that she called, “very rich, very opulent, very Jason.” The French manicure featured a matte gold tip and a dark cherry base. In order to preserve the gold color of the tip, she painted the whole nail Gold Chrome and set it with Air Dry before painting on the base using a mixture of Dark Ruby and Blood Line.
