Jimmy Paul for Bumble and bumble styles hair for Yigal Azrouel's runway show
At this year’s Yigal Azrouel spring show at Highline Studio, things were kept fashionably casual, mimicking “something a girl in New York would buy,” said Jimmy Paul, hairstylist for Bumble and bumble. “It’s a simple look, very urbane, very real,” he said. Most Azrouel models’ hair was dyed a platinum blonde and was styled for a sleek and clean look.
“It’s inspired by the way girls come on casting,” Paul said, as he brushed a model’s hair into a low semi-side parted ponytail. To achieve the style, Paul first blow-dried hair, adding Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray to gain volume and straightness. When necessary, he flat-ironed hair to make strands uniform. After pulling hair back with a paddle brush, Paul looped it into a ponytail, using a basic hair tie, which he did not attempt to conceal but left visible for a consistent utilitarian concept. The final hairstyle was a polished everyday look.
Lucia Pica, makeup artist for M.A.C., said she was going for a soft and creamy complexion, keeping the focus on a casual vibe. To create a polished glow for the face, Pica used a peachy-yellow color as foundation, did not use mascara and did not create a pronounced lip. In fact, she applied Lip Erase lip balm in Pale to mute pinks and reds. Eyes were the only part of the face given emphasis and were dusted with brown and rusty shadows. A light coat of brown eyeliner was applied to the inside and top of the eyelids. “Ultimately, it’s a really creamy, untouchable effect,” said Pica. —Kristen Heinzinger
