Get Lea Michele’s Golden Globes Hair
Glee star Lea Michele’s hair hit all the right notes at the Golden Globes. Her sophisticated updo was a throwback to vintage Hollywood—and even withstood the rain on the red carpet. To create the elegant twist, NYC-based stylist Miok, of Judy Casey Inc., started by blowing the hair out with René Furterer Volumea Volumizing Conditioning Spray and then used a medium-sized barrel curling iron to curl all of the hair in sections. After the curls cooled, she ran her fingers through them, then teased the hair at the nape and pinned it back, while leaving about two inches in the center loose. Next, Miok gave the crown a light tease, smoothed it out and gently rolled it under, above the loose hair at the nape.
Taking the left side of the nape hair, Miok lightly back-combed it, wrapped it around the loose roll and pinned it underneath. She then repeated the same thing with the right side of nape hair in the opposite direction. To finish, Miok spread out the wrapped hair and set it with pins, and gently swept the front hair to the side.

Get Marion Cotillard’s Golden Globes Hair
For Marion Cotillard’s Golden Globes hair, Robert Vetica wanted to give her a style that would complement her elegant yet slightly risqué Dior gown. “I wanted a look that was glamorous, but with an edge,” Vetica said. “I was inspired by the rock ‘n’ roll pompadours of the 50s, strengthened with a sleek, modern French twist.”
Since shiny, healthy-looking hair was essential to the look, Vetica first applied argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Treatment to wet hair and blow-dried it straight using a diffuser to keep a bit of natural texture. He then pin-curled the entire head front to back, so that hair would easily flow back and up into the pompadour shape. After releasing the pin curls, he ran Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream through the hair with his hands. After brushing back and up, he back-combed the top and pulled the sides back tight, leaving some volume on top. Next, he twisted the hair into a tight French twist, which was asymmetrically attached with eye-catching diamond hair clips created by Chopard. He finished the look with a light misting of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to give Cotillard’s hair a beautiful, naturally luminous shine.
Get January Jones’ Golden Globes Hair
January Jones is known for her amazing retro style as Betty Draper on Mad Men, but for the Golden Globes, she walked the red carpet with a daring and modern look. Taking inspiration from Jones’ dramatic Lanvin gown, celebrity stylist Mark Townsend created a head-turning updo that features a sleek black ribbon headband. “As soon as I saw the dress I knew I wanted to put her hair up,” said Townsend, “Adding the satin ribbon as a headband gave a classic French twist with a very modern edge.”
Townsend applied a small amount of Moroccanoil Treatment to Jones’ damp hair for added shine and silkiness and blow-dried it with a round brush. When the hair was dry, he took a dollop of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and finger-combed it through the hair to give it a soft hold and leave the hair extremely smooth. Finally, he gathered the hair into a French twist and secured with about 10 bobby pins. He finished her chic style with a satin ribbon as a headband.
Get Vera Farmiga’s Gorgeous Golden Globes Glow
Inspired by the concept of “Old Hollywood meets ethereal naturalist,” celebrity makeup artist and green beauty expert Tina Turnbow gave Vera Farmiga a look that highlighted her feminine beauty with a healthy flush.
To get the look, Turnbow used a mix of warm and cool tones from tarte cosmetics. “I love Vera’s porcelain complexion, so I wanted to keep it simple with a sheer foundation and lightweight mineral powder,” said Turnbow, who used smooth operator tinted moisturizer SPF 20 in façade and provocateur mineral pressed powder SPF 8 in fair. For the cheeks, she opted for the new Tina Turnbow for tarte flower child natural cheek stain for “just a pop of pink made for a healthy blush.”
Wanting to play up Farmiga’s blue eyes, Turnbow used warm coppery bronze eyeshadows from the Tina Turnbow for tarte flower child eyeshadow palette and rimmed the eyes with a matte brown liner. The lashes were coated with new multiplEYE natural lash enhancing mascara, part of the three-step multiplEYE regimen.
To finish off the look, Turnbow painted Farmiga’s lips with a combination of natural gel lip stain in charmed and vitamin infused lipstick in bikram. “I felt a sweet pink pout really complimented her look,” she said. Turnbow set the entire look with Arcona’s Lavender Hydrasol for a natural glow.
All About Texture at the Golden Globes
At last night’s Golden Globes, several celebs eschewed the stick-straight styles of years past and embraced textured tresses. “The hair was very casual, not overdone and styled,” notes Goldwell International Guest Artist Dimitrios Tsioumas. “It looked extremely natural, which was a nice change.”
Michael Shaun Corby, global creative director for Alterna, agrees: “From Julia Roberts’ sexy waves to Sandra Bullock’s faux textured bob to Heidi Klum’s simple but elegant style to Emily Blunt’s piecey look, the hair was natural and laid-back. Even updos had texture.” According to Corby, the key to achieving perfect texture is using a texturizing styling product, such as Alterna Hemp with Organics Texturizing Glaze, to lightly separate the hair and add definition.

Get Nicole Kidman’s Golden Globes Hair
I’ve always been a huge fan of Nicole Kidman—both on screen and on the red carpet—and last night’s Golden Globes look was no exception. I loved her natural and elegant updo, created by the wonderful David Babaii. Here’s how to recreate it:
- Blow dry hair with a round brush.
- After hair is dry, create a side part and sweep gently over the ear and secure with bobby pins.
- Brush remaining hair back and smooth into an off center ponytail.
- Take sections from underneath the pony tail and wrap loosely under and secure with pins, allowing the ends to be exposed. Continue pinning 1” sections which are twirled and wrapped into a modern chignon. Do not comb or smooth any of the sections so you can create a soft natural look.
- Finish with David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Hold Styling Spray to tame any fly-a-ways.
Kidman’s makeup, dewy and natural with sultry eyes, was the work of makeup artist Angela Levin for CHANEL Beaute.
Golden Globes Men: A Hairy Night
What was with all the facial hair at last night’s Golden Globes? Jon Hamm and George Clooney, you are two of the best looking men in Hollywood, so why are you hiding your faces? Wiliam Hurt,I can’t even imagine what you were hiding in that rat’s nest growing out of your chin. And Robert Downey, Jr., you gave one of the night’s best speeches, but I was a little distracted by the fact that your facial hair made it look like you were plotting to take over the world … Here’s to hoping that these hirsute looks were for upcoming movie roles!
What were your thoughts on the not-so-groomed looks on some of Hollywood’s leading men?

Get Penelope Cruz’s Golden Globes Hair!
The always-stunning Penelope Cruz was one of the red carpet standouts at last night’s Golden Globes. We asked celebrity stylist Oribe, who created her glamorous, side-swept curls, how he got the look—and how he got her locks to stay smooth in the rain (The answer? Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray!)
1. Start by working Oribe Gel Serum through the hair, then use hot rollers or a curling iron to set the hair. Spray Imperméable on the hair before using the curling iron to help protect the style and prevent frizz.
2. Brush loose curls into place
3. Accentuate the wave in the front and make sure it is pronounced
4. Use a bobby pin and pin the hair back on one side and spray it with Superfine Hair Spray
In a tweet to American Salon last night, Oribe also complimented Cruz’s elegant makeup, done by Scott Barnes, author of the new book About Face.
